I wonder why Dr. D told us Sir Walter Scott's 500 pages of 'Ivanhoe' is like the ancient 'Harry Potter'. 'Ivanhoe' talks much bout the conflicts between the Saxons and Normans in Old England, and as much as Scott suggests chivalry, his notion of chivalry and aventure is built upon the idea of Romanticism. Meaning, 'Ivanhoe' is written in the 19th century based on certain historical happenings in the 12th century. So, why the similarity to 'Harry Potter'?
The latter is totally a fiction, and i think it inspires greater imagination! I so heart the idea of living in fantasy. (: Who wouldn't love the settings in 'Harry Potter', and the adventures of going to school by 9 3/4 train, having PE lessons with flying broomsticks, and dining tables lay with tonnes of glorious food and perfect orange candle lightings and so much more amidst the frightful events, some crazy tutors and mysterious locked doors. Who wouldn't love the school and uniforms, TELL ME?!?!?! oh no. now i have to confess that i have a thing for school films, novels etc etc. anything to do with school. Yet nothing to do with the schools i was and am in.
Dr. D, I understand what you mean when you say you don't really like Rowling's works. But why is there no room more for fantasy? Or when you mean fantasy, you love the extremes, like Blake's works? I think Blake's cool, but at the same time crazy.
